David Sinclair Nixon (1904 - 1973) was active/lived in Louisiana / Europe. David Nixon is known for Modernist figure-genre painting, musician.
DAVID SINCLAIR NIXON (1904 -1973)
Born in Bessemer, Alabama to Edith and John Burbage, David Sinclair Nixon assumed the last name Nixon from his mother's second husband. He lived and worked as an artist and musician (violinist) in Paris where he formed friendships with Ezra Pound, Lyle Saxon, and many other notable art-world figures. He was also accomplished in puppetry.
He returned to New Orleans due to the outbreak of WWII. In the 1940's he opened the Little Gallery on Royal Street, where he showcased his own work and that of many other artists. He also opened the David S. Nixon Art Foundation and Gallery on Madison St. in the French Quarter, with his wife June Prudhomme, as part of the complex of buildings she had purchased there and in which they lived. There was even a puppet theatre and 200-seat auditorium, which they later leased out as the Gallery Circle Theatre.
